Corbetti Geothermal
A substantial, high-grade geothermal reservoir in the middle of the African Rift valley.
Introduction to Corbetti Geothermal
One of the largest IPPs in Africa, the Corbetti Geothermal project aims to develop a resource conservatively defined as a 250–300°C high-grade geothermal reservoir.
The potential of this site, combined with Ethiopia’s rising population and economic momentum, makes it an invaluable prospect.
More About Corbetti Geothermal
The drilling tender for Corbetti Geothermal is already complete. The first phase of drilling is set to begin before 2022, and the project is expected to be operational in 2027.
Ideal Geothermal Location
Like its sister project, Tulu Moye, Corbetti is also located in the Oromia region of Ethiopia, within the Main Ethiopia Rift, a volcanically active zone that is part of the East African Rift Valley.
Extensive Studies Already Completed
Geothermal surface exploration studies successfully completed and strongly indicate a high enthalpy geothermal prospect for harnessing geothermal power.
Strong Geothermal Development Partners
Reykjavik Geothermal is working closely with Ethiopian Electric Power, under an agreement backed by the Government of Ethiopia.
Exploration Underway
Corbetti Geothermal’s exploration drilling is set to begin in 2022.
