Reykjavík Geothermal (RG) has appointed Dr. Ásdís Benediktsdóttir as Head of Geoscience, Helga Jóna Jónasdóttir as Project Manager, and Kristín Guðmundsdóttir as a Specialist in the Development Team. The appointments further strengthen the company and support the continued development of geothermal projects in Iceland and internationally.
Reykjavík Geothermal has significantly expanded its team in recent months. The company has appointed, among others, a Chief Financial Officer, Director of Marketing and Communications, Director of Environment and Stakeholder Relations, project managers, and specialists in geoscience, engineering and finance. Earlier this year, RG advertised a number of positions and received more than 500 applications, reflecting strong interest in the company and opportunities within the energy sector.
Reykjavík Geothermal is an international geothermal development company specializing in the development and financing of geothermal projects. Since its establishment in 2008, the company has been involved in geothermal projects in approximately 50 countries as a developer or advisor, building extensive experience and an international network across the geothermal sector. Today, RG is developing projects in Iceland, the Canary Islands and the Middle East.
Earlier this year, the company completed a financing round to support the continued development of its project portfolio. This includes Bolaalda in Ölfus, which the Icelandic Parliament placed in the utilization category of the Master Plan for Nature Protection and Energy Utilization this summer, following eight years of research and development. Exploration drilling also began in Tenerife this spring, where Reykjavík Geothermal is working with partners on a project that could contribute to greater energy security and a more sustainable energy future for the Canary Islands.
Dr. Ásdís Benediktsdóttir appointed Head of Geoscience
Ásdís brings extensive experience in geothermal research and the development of geothermal projects in Iceland and internationally. She previously served as Resource Lead at Reykjavík Energy, where she led a team of geoscientists and worked on the development and utilization of ON Power’s high-temperature geothermal fields. She also worked at Iceland GeoSurvey (ÍSOR), conducting resistivity studies for geothermal exploration, from survey design and fieldwork to modelling, interpretation and project management.
Ásdís holds a Ph.D. and B.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Iceland and an M.Sc. in Geophysics from the University of Hawaiʻi.
At Reykjavík Geothermal, Ásdís leads multidisciplinary geoscience teams across projects from exploration through drilling. She develops geothermal exploration programmes and leads teams integrating and interpreting geoscientific data to support decisions on project development, site selection and geothermal well targeting.
Helga Jóna Jónasdóttir appointed Project Manager
Helga Jóna has more than ten years of experience in project management within the construction and infrastructure sectors and has led a wide range of projects from concept and development through construction and operations. She previously worked as a project manager for the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration and leading Nordic contractors, including managing complex multinational projects.
Helga Jóna holds an M.Sc. in Applied and Engineering Geology from the University of Iceland and has also completed a teaching qualification at the same university. Before moving into project management, she worked as an upper-secondary school teacher for more than a decade.
At Reykjavík Geothermal, Helga Jóna leads the preparation and development of the planned Bolaalda geothermal power project. She also supports professional project management and consistent ways of working across the company’s project portfolio.
Kristín Guðmundsdóttir appointed Specialist in the Development Team
Kristín brings experience in mechanical design, heat transfer and innovation and has worked on a range of projects across the industrial and energy sectors. She joins Reykjavík Geothermal from COWI and previously worked at Marel. Her experience includes the development and design of industrial machinery, 3D modelling and technical project work, with an emphasis on practical and efficient engineering solutions.
Kristín holds an M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Energy and Process Technology, from Delft University of Technology.
At Reykjavík Geothermal, Kristín contributes to the engineering aspects of the company’s geothermal development projects. Her expertise in mechanical design and energy technology further strengthens the development team and its work on technical solutions for projects in Iceland and internationally.
Magnús Dagur Ásbjörnsson, CEO of Reykjavík Geothermal:
