Update: Tulu Moye Geothermal Project EPC Tender

An EPC tender was issued for the Tulu Moye Geothermal Project at the end of November 2020. Technical bids have since then been received from 7 companies to conduct EPC in Tulu Moye.

Early in the first quarter (February 2021), both the Tulu Moye and Corbetti geothermal projects have received their first payments for the drilling grant established by the Geothermal Risk Mitigation Facility (GRMF) for Eastern Africa.

GRMF for Eastern Africa: AUC Signing GRMF Grant Agreement with Reykjavik Geothermal in Ethiopia

On 10 April 2018, the AUC signed another GRMF Grant Contract for the Abaya surface study project of Reykjavik Geothermal in Ethiopia. The agreement was signed by the AUC Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy, H.E. Dr Amani Abou-Zeid, and the Country Manager for Ethiopia, Mr. Jón Örn Jónsson, in the AUC HQ in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on 10 April 2018. The Director for the Infrastructure & Energy Department, and Chairperson of the GRMF Oversight Committee, Mr. Cheikh Bedda, as well as the Head of the Energy Division, and GRMF Project Manager, Mr. Rashid Ali Abdallah, congratulated Mr. Jón Örn Jónsson in person for this achievement.

The Government of Ethiopia and Ethiopian Electric Power sign key agreements with Corbetti Geothermal plc.

19 December 2017. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia: Corbetti Geothermal plc (Corbetti), the Government of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (GoE) and Ethiopian Electric Power (EEP) today signed an implementation agreement (IA) and a power purchase agreement (PPA) for Corbetti, a pioneering geothermal power project planned to deliver up to 520MW of baseload renewable power to Ethiopia’s national grid. Following extensive collaboration with GoE and EEP, the IA and PPA signings mark a major step in the development of privately developed and financed power in Ethiopia.

The Government of Ethiopia, Ethiopian Electric Power and Tulu Moye Geothermal, a joint venture between Meridiam and Reykjavik Geothermal (RG) finalized the contracts for the 520 megawatt geothermal power project in Tulu Moye, today. The project is part of a historic agreement, along with the Corbetti Geothermal project, to build 1000 megawatts of geothermal power in Ethiopia.

Civil Work starts in Corbetti Ethiopia

Civil Work starts in Corbetti Ethiopia

On May 23rd 2015 civil work started in the Corbetti Geothermal Project in Ethiopia. The Corbetti geothermal site is developed by Corbetti Geothermal PLC, a local Ethiopian company, and it is estimated that the total installation will be of 500 MW electric power. The development will be in phases. In Phase 1 there will be drilled 5 geothermal wells and installed 20 MW power plant, in Phase 2 the plant capacity will be expanded to 70 MW, in Phase 3 to 270 MW and in phase 4 to 500 MW.
